Functional Role of Hydroxyethyl Cellulose (HEC) in Latex Paints

Latex paints, HEC

Hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) can be used in the latex paints. It’s main function is thickening, to make the paint achieve the desired storage and viscosity for construction, without severe delamination during storage or dripping and sagging phenomena during use. Due to the strong water absorption capability, when added to the emulsion, it can immediately absorb a large amount of water, make the volume of itself substantially expand, significantly increase the viscosity of the latex and thus achieve thickening purposes. HEC also proves to be better than HPMC and HEMC because it enhances the mechanical properties and improves its durability through effective storage stability.
